허드슨 강의 기적(Miracle on the Hudson)은 미국시간 2009년 1월 15일 오후 3시 30분경, 미국 항공사 유에스에어웨이 1549기(US Airways, Flight 1549)가 뉴욕의 라과디아 공항(LaGuardia Airport)을 출발하여 샬럿 더글러스 국제공항(Charlotte Douglas International Airport)을 경유하여 시애틀 터코마 국제공항(Seattle Tacoma International Airport)으로 향해 출발하였으나 비행기 이륙 직후에 새떼와 마주치는 버드 스트라이크(bird strike)로 엔진에 불이 붙으면서 센트럴 파크 인근에 위치해 있는 허드슨 강에 불시착한 사고이다. 다행히 당시 기장이었던 체슬리 버넷 "설리" 설렌버거 3세(Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III, 1951 ~ )의 판단으로 승객과 승무원 155명이 탄 여객기를 센트럴 파크 인근에 있는 허드슨 강에 불시착을 성공시켜 전원 구조하였다. 이 사건은 2016년 "설리(Sully)"라는 이름으로 영화가 제작되었으며 기장으로는 톰 행크스(Tom Hanks)가 기장 설렌버거(Sullenberger)의 역으로 출연하였다.
당시 현장에서 탑승객을 구조하기 위해 건너편 페리(ferry)에 탑승하여 인명 구조 활동을 하던 재니스 크룸스(Janis Krums)이 스마트폰으로 촬영하여 트위터의 사진 공유 사이트인 트위픽(Twitpic)을 이용하여 트위터로 어는 언론사 보다 먼저 전세계에서 가장 먼저 뉴스 사진을 전송하게 되었다. 재니스 크롬은 먼저 트위터를 통해 허드슨 강에 비행기가 있고 자신은 사람들을 구조하기 위해 간다(There's a plane in the Hudson. I'm on the ferry going to pick up the people. Crazy.)고 문자를 전송한 후 항공기에 탄 승객의 구조 장면을 사진으로 찍어 트위터로 전송하였다.
