피트 시거(Pete Seeger) & 페기 시거(Peggy Seeger) Guantanamera(관타나메라), The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
피트 시거(Pete Seeger, 1919~2014)는 페기 시거(Peggy Seeger, 1935~ )의 이복오빠이다. Peter "Pete" Seeger는 미국의 포크 가수이며 활동가로서 1950년대에 그룹 위버스(the Weavers)로 활동하기도 하였다. 피트 시거(Pete Seeger)는 쿠바의 아리랑이라 할 수 있는 쿠바의 민요 관타나메라(Guantanamera)를 정리하여 부른 것으로 유명하다. 피트 시거는 인권에 관련된 많은 상을 수상하였으며, 1972년 작곡가명예의 전당(Songwriters Hall of Fame)에 헌액되었고, 1996년 로큰롤명예의 전당(Rock and Roll Hall of Fame)에 헌액되었으며 1997년, 2008년, 2010년 그래미상(Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album)을 수상하였다. 2010년에는 어린이 뮤지컬 부문에서 그래미상(Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children)을 수상하였고, 2014년에는 구술부문에서 그래미상(Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album)에 노미네이트되었다.
페기 시거(Margaret "Peggy" Seeger)는 미국의 포크 싱어로서 영국에서 30년 이상을 살았고 영국의 전설적인 싱어송라이터인 이원 맥콜(Ewan MacColl)과 결혼하여 맥콜이 별세한 1989년까지 영국에서 함께 살았다.

This started out as a poem written in 1899 by Cuban writer Jose Marti(호세 마르티). The poem is about a girl from Guantanamo and was written from the point of view of a Cuban revolutionary. In the early 1960s Pete Seeger heard Hector Angulo singing a Cuban folk song using Marti's words based on a traditional melody adapted by bandleader Joseito Fernandez. This was the time of the Cuban missile crisis and the peace activist Seeger decided to adapt it in honor of Marti. He combined Marti's original Spanish with spoken English and made it into a song for the peace movement.
