미국 뉴욕(New York, USA)의 타임스 스퀘어(Times Square)는 뉴욕 미드타운 맨해튼 웨스트 42번가와 47번가(42nd and 47th Streets)가 합쳐져 만난 세븐스 에비뉴(Seventh Avenue)와 브로드웨이(Broadway)가 만나는 곳으로서, 이전에는 롱에이커 스퀘어(Longacre Square)라고 불리던 장소이었으나, 1904년 4월 뉴욕타임스(New York Times) 본사가 이곳으로 이전하면서 타임스퀘어라는 이름으로 불리게 되었다. 뉴욕 타임스 사옥은 주소를 따라서 원 타임스 스퀘어(One Times Square)라고 불리며, 1907년 이후 매년 12월 31일 새해를 맞아 볼 드랍(New Year's Eve ball drop) 행사가 열린다. 타임스퀘어는 매주 7일 24시간 옥외광고와 광고가 집행되는 광고의 거리로 라스베이거스 다음으로 세계 관광객들이 가장 많이 방문하는 명소이며, 2011년 기준으로 매일 300만 명 이상의 사람들이 지나다니며, 매년 3,900만 명 이상 관광객이 방문하는 장소이다. 일반적으로 타임스 스퀘어는 세계에서 가장 유명한 관광지들 중 하나로, 매일 36만명의 관광객, 매년 기준 1억 3천1백만 명이 방문한다.
타임스퀘어의 발전에는 옥외광고의 선구자인 광고인 더글러스 레이(Douglas Leigh, May 24, 1907 – December 14, 1999)의 공로가 크다. 더글러스는 클레리지 호텔(Hotel Claridge)에 담배 브랜드인 카멜(Camel)의 옥외 광고를 설치하고 담배를 피는 사람의 입에서 연기가 나오는 장치로 타임스퀘어에 옥외광고가 발전하는 게기를 마련하였다.
